Privacy Policy

Real French is a small family school in Brittany. We collect very little, we sell nothing, and we don’t track you across the web. This page explains exactly what happens when you use realfrench.co.

What we collect

Only what you give us, and only when you ask us to do something with it.

  • Contact form: your name, email address, and the message you write to us.
  • 14 Sounds ear-test form: your email address, your score on the test, and a hidden field that filters out automated bots.
  • Booking a discovery call (via Calendly): your name, your email, and the time slot you pick.
  • Server logs: when you load a page, our server records the URL, the time, and a hash of your IP address. The hash uses a different daily key, so logs from yesterday cannot be linked to logs from today, even by us. We use these logs to count visits and spot broken pages. We do not log search terms, scrolling, mouse movement, or anything you type.

What we don’t do

  • We do not set any first-party cookies on your browser.
  • We do not use localStorage or any other client-side tracker.
  • We do not run cross-site tracking, browser fingerprinting, or device profiling.
  • We do not run advertising pixels (no Meta pixel, no LinkedIn pixel, no TikTok pixel, no remarketing tags).
  • We do not sell, rent, or share your data with anyone for marketing.

This is unusual for a business website, and it is deliberate. Our analytics run server-side, in our own logs, with a daily-rotating hash. That gives us the visit counts we need without a cookie banner and without handing your behaviour to a data broker.

Third-party services we use

A few external tools are loaded on the site for specific reasons. They have their own privacy policies, which we link to below. When you interact with these widgets, they may set their own cookies.

  • Google Analytics (loaded via Google Tag Manager): aggregate visit measurement so we can see which pages people read. Google’s privacy policy.
  • Calendly: the embedded widget that lets you book a 15-minute discovery call with Bernard. Calendly’s privacy policy.
  • YouTube: the Gemma Arterton interview is embedded on her page. The video player loads from YouTube only after you click play. YouTube’s privacy policy.
  • Google Maps: the location maps on /your-stay/ and /contact-us/ load from Google Maps, lazily, only when you scroll near them. Google’s privacy policy.
  • Brevo: sends the 14 Sounds ear-test PDF to your inbox and handles our small mailing list. EU-based service, EU servers. Brevo’s privacy policy.

Where your data is stored

The website is hosted by HostSilo (a brand of NameSilo, LLC, headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona, USA), on servers in Canada (Toronto). Canada has been recognised by the European Commission as providing adequate data protection (the EU-Canada adequacy decision), so transfers stay GDPR-compliant. The mailing list and the 14 Sounds PDF delivery run on Brevo, on EU servers in France. Email handled by Brevo stays in the European Union.

How long we keep it

  • Contact form messages: kept until Bernard has replied to you, plus 12 months of context in case you write again.
  • 14 Sounds mailing list: we keep your email until you unsubscribe. Every email we send has a one-click unsubscribe link at the bottom.
  • Booking records (paid customers): 7 years, for our accounting.
  • Server logs: rolling 90 days, then deleted.

Your rights

You can ask us what we have on file for you, ask for a copy, or ask us to delete it. Email Bernard at info@realfrench.co and we will respond within 7 days.

Cookies

We do not set any cookies of our own. The third-party widgets above (Calendly, YouTube, Google Maps, Google Analytics) may set cookies when you interact with them. If you want to avoid all of them, your browser’s “block third-party cookies” setting works on this site.

Updates

Last reviewed: 2 May 2026. We review this page once a year. If anything material changes (a new third-party service, a change in what we collect), we update the page and flag the change at the top.

Questions about any of this: info@realfrench.co.
